Camp Albright in Reed City, Michigan has welcomed groups, families, and faith communities for more than a century — and its best chapters are still being written.
Nestled in Reed City, Michigan, Camp Albright is a historic property with more than 100 years of legacy as a place where people gather, worship, rest, and reconnect. Originally operated by the Methodist Church for seasonal camps, the property continues that calling today under new and passionate ownership.
Spanning nearly 14 acres, the camp features lodging for large and small groups, riverfront access to the Hersey River, event and worship spaces, recreational facilities, and flexible-use grounds suited for church retreats, family reunions, youth camps, weddings, and corporate outings.
The love of Christ is the heartbeat of everything we do. Our programming, our hospitality, and our mission are all grounded in scripture and shaped by genuine faith.
Whether you are a church group, a family on a weekend getaway, or a couple planning a wedding, you are genuinely welcomed here. Every guest matters to us.
We believe nature has a way of opening hearts. The Hersey River, the open skies, and the grounds of this camp are part of how we care for the people who visit.
Our deepest passion is creating opportunities for medically fragile, special-needs, and disadvantaged children to experience the joy of camp.
We are committed to making the camp experience welcoming for everyone, including children and families who need accommodations and accessible facilities.
With over a century of history, we are stewards of something bigger than ourselves. We aim to honour that legacy by continuing to serve our community.
Camp Albright is led by Sheila and Brian Jacobson — two people whose life experiences have profoundly shaped their vision for this place.
Sheila and Brian are native Michiganders who built their lives out west in Arizona, raising their children Noah and Anna. During those years, they were deeply involved in church youth camps — Sheila serving as a nurse and counselor, Brian teaching archery, survival skills, and Bible study. Both of their children accepted Christ at church camp in consecutive years. Those moments crystallized something in Sheila and Brian: camp is not just recreation. It is sacred ground where faith is formed.
A pull toward North Carolina led them there without a clear reason — until Sheila, working an ER shift, helped care for a critically ill baby girl named Amari. After nearly four months in the NICU and multiple surgeries, Amari was released to a care facility. Sheila and Brian kept visiting, and eventually became her foster parents — and in 2019, officially adopted her as their daughter.
Amari Grace Jacobson brought immeasurable joy to their family. But after her adoption, a brain tumor was discovered. Surgery was successful, but complications during recovery took her home to be with the Lord two months later. They celebrate where she is today, even as they carry the deep ache of missing her. These experiences — along with three years of loving and caring for another medically fragile foster child with cerebral palsy and seizures — shaped their calling. They came to Camp Albright with a clear purpose: to create a place where families caring for children with extraordinary needs can come, breathe, and experience the beauty of the outdoors together.
To support the mission of Camp Albright, Sheila and Brian established a nonprofit organization named after their daughter: Grace Ministries at Camp Albright.
This organization exists to share the love of Christ through biblical teaching, worship, recreation, and faith-centered camp experiences — and to help create opportunities for children with special needs, medically fragile children, and disadvantaged youth to attend camp at no cost.
Grace Ministries exists to share the love of Christ through biblical teaching, worship, recreation, and faith-centered camp experiences, while helping break unplowed ground and plant seeds of righteousness in the lives of children, families, and guests.
Faith-rooted programming anchored in scripture, with worship, devotion, and teaching designed to reach hearts at every stage of life.
One of the ministry’s core goals is to provide fully sponsored camp experiences — at no charge — for children who otherwise could not attend.
Families caring for children with unique medical or developmental needs deserve rest and joy too. Grace Ministries is building toward programs and accommodations designed just for them.
Every booking, event, and fundraiser at Camp Albright contributes to a larger mission of sowing seeds of righteousness and reaping the fruit of unfailing love.
Camp Albright exists to provide a welcoming place for gatherings, retreats, celebrations, and overnight stays — while sharing the love of Christ and creating opportunities for children with special needs and their families to experience the beauty of the outdoors and the joy of camp.
Through everyday bookings, special events, and ministry activities, every stay at Camp Albright helps build toward a future where no child is left out of the camp experience because of their needs or their family’s financial situation.
